Weather Information

A part of the Kansas Mesonet, the WKREC stations at Colby, Hays, Garden City, and Tribune report daily weather information summarized here

The Western Kansas Research-Extension Centers (WKREC) is composed of four sub-units, including the Agricultural Research Center - Hays (ARCH), the Southwest Research-Extension Center - Garden City (SWREC), and Southwest Research Center - Tribune (SWREC-T), and the Northwest Research-Extension Centers - Colby (NWREC).

Each research extension location records daily weather. That information is consolidated into monthly reports that are available on our website. Please use the links below.

K-State Weather Information

The Department of Agronomy houses the Weather Data Library, which includes the Office of the State Climatologist and the Kansas Mesonet. This library functions as a storage facility for details pertaining to the weather and climate of the state of Kansas.

ET Data

The term "ET data" in irrigation refers to Evapotranspiration data. Evapotranspiration is the combined process of water evaporation from the soil and transpiration from plants. In the context of irrigation, ET data is crucial for estimating the water needs of crops and determining the optimal irrigation schedule.

Evapotranspiration varies based on factors such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and the type of vegetation present. By monitoring ET data, farmers and irrigation managers can make informed decisions about when and how much water to apply to crops. This helps in efficient water use, reducing water waste, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. ET data is collected and reported for irrigation management at the Southwest Research-Extension Center at Garden City and Northwest Research-Extension Center at Colby. Delve deeper into ET data here.
